DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE CODES

The following Description of Service codes should be used for all additional compensation paid during the summer service period:

(Note:  “ASC” refers to “Additional Summer Compensation” in the following descriptions)

ACR -

ASC - Research
Additional Compensation - Research
Used for academic-year professorial faculty who are paid on title codes designated for summer additional compensation for research; payment is at either the 1/9th, 1/11th, or 1/12th rate. A percent of time must be used with this DOS code.  For AY academic appointees eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution on summer salary.

ARC –
(new DOS code)

ASC-Res-Agency Capped
Additional Compensation – Research –Agency-Capped Salary Used to identify agency capped salaries for academic-year professorial faculty receiving summer additional compensation for research.  For AY academic appointees eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution to summer salary.                               (Used with appropriate 09/12 research title code.)

AAC –(formerly
“ABR”)

ASC –Res-Abv Cap/Suppl
Additional Compensation – Research – Agency-Capped Salary, Above Cap Portion – Flat Amt         (aka By Agreement)
Used for supplement to agency-capped salaries (subject to funding restrictions).  Normally used only with available non-federal or non-state funding sources.  For AY academic appointees eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution on summer salary.

ACA

ASC – Administrative
Additional Compensation - Administrative
Used for all academic-year professorial faculty who serve in an administrative capacity (e.g., Chair) during the summer. A percent of time must be used together with a 1/9th rate of pay.  For AY academic appointees eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution on summer salary. (Used with appropriate 09/09 professorial title code.)

APA
(formerly “ABA”)

ASC – Admin-Flat Amt (aka By Agreement)
Additional Compensation – Other                                Used occasionally for faculty who participate in special administrative assignments or projects for a specific salary. This DOS may not be used with any extramural funding source.  For AY academic appointees eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution on summer salary.

ACM

ASC - Miscellaneous
Additional Compensation - Miscellaneous
Used for any additional summer compensation for academic-year appointees providing non-Summer Session services (curriculum development, COSMOS, etc.) who are paid on title codes eligible for summer additional compensation. Not to be used for summer research or administrative work.  A percent of time must be used with the DOS code.  For AY academic appointees eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution on summer salary.

AMN
(formerly
“ACU”)

ASC – Miscellaneous – No DC
Additional Compensation – Miscellaneous – No DCP Contribution
Used for any additional summer compensation for academic appointees (AY or FY) providing non-Summer Session services (curriculum development, COSMOS, etc.) who are paid on title codes eligible for summer additional compensation.  A percent of time must be used with the DOS code.  For academic appointees NOT eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution on summer salary.

OEN –(new DOS code)

ASC – One-Eleventh Pmt  - Fiscal Year
Additional Compensation – One-Eleventh Pmt for Research (FY Appointees)  Used for exceptional payment of up to one-eleventh of annual salary for FY academic appointees for research performed during vacation period; appropriate number of accrued vacation days must be charged.  For fiscal year academic appointees – FY are NOT eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution on summer salary.

SSC-

ASC-Sum Sess-Flat Amt-DCP (aka By Agreement)
Additional Compensation – Teaching & Summer Sessions
Used for academic appointees teaching in Summer Sessions.  For AY academic appointees eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution on summer salary.

SST -

ASC—Sum Sess-Flat Amt-No DC (aka By Agreement)
Additional Compensation – Teaching & Summer Sessions
Used for UC academic appointees or staff teaching in Summer Sessions.  For AY academic appointees and staff NOT eligible for the employer/employee DCP contribution on summer salary.
