DEANS and DEPARTMENT CHAIRS
RE: Revised UCI Career Equity Review Policy
In September 2003, a new UCI Career Equity Review Policy was issued,
developed jointly by Irvine's Divisional Academic Senate and the
Office of Academic Personnel. During the 2003-04 review cycle,
five Career Equity Reviews were forwarded to Academic Affairs for CAP
evaluation and final decision. I have attached a chart showing
the current status of those five cases.
During this initial experience with the Career Equity Review process,
reviewers at all levels requested that we provide additional guidance
regarding documentation as well as how to assess any new material.
In response, we have revised the UCI Career Equity Review Policy to clarify
the documentation requirements. Also, a new section has been added
comparing the timing of the career equity review to that of the normal
merit or promotion review, and identifying the normal merit or
promotion as the appropriate place to consider new material.
A copy of the revised policy is attached. If you have any questions
about the changes, please let me know.
