RE: Redelegation of Authority - Lecturers Authority for academic personnel actions was delegated to the Executive Vice Chancellor by the Chancellor in his delegation of authority, dated July 3, 2000. I am redelegating part of that authority to you, as specified below: Effective July 1, 2005, I am redelegating to Academic Deans the authority to approve all initial appointments for Lecturers and for Teachers - Special Programs in your units when the appointees are identified from an approved search. Academic Deans will continue to have the authority to approve reappointment of Lecturers and Teachers -Special Programs, through the first six years of employment, as long as those reappointments conform to University and campus policy. You are also authorized to approve any change to a previously approved appointment after the employee has been consulted regarding the change. All post-six year actions, including transition to a Continuing Appointment and merit increases for appointees with Continuing Appointments, will continue to require review and approval by the Executive Vice Chancellor or the Executive Vice Chancellor's designee. The pertinent policies are found in the Memorandum of Understanding, Non-Senate Instructional Unit and in the Academic Personnel Procedures. Effective with this redelegation, the Dean's office has the responsibility for: a. Maintaining records regarding quarters of service for Lecturers.
Academic Personnel will remain the office of record for these actions. These authorities may not be further redelegated and supersedes Executive Vice Chancellor Lillyman's delegation of authority on the same subject dated December 22, 1998.
