IRVINE: EXECUTIVE VICE CHANCELLOR

April 15, 2005

ACADEMIC DEANS
VICE CHANCELLOR FOR RESEARCH

RE: Redelegation - Specialist Series

Authority for academic personnel actions was delegated to the Executive Vice Chancellor by the Chancellor in his delegation of authority dated July 3, 2000. I am redelegating part of that authority to you, as specified below:

Effective July 1, 2005, (academic review cycle 2005-06), I am delegating to Academic Deans and to the Vice Chancellor for Research the authority to approve the following actions for individuals in the Specialist Series:

1. Initial appointment providing the individual was identified following an approved search
2. All normal merit increases
3. The first reappointment review, without a merit increase
4. All changes in status, including percent of full time or fund source
5. Leaves of absence with salary up to 30 days or without salary up to one year

All actions approved by the Deans must be consistent with current systemwide and local policies. Within 30 days of the Dean's approval, the original dossier and search, if applicable, should be forwarded to the Office of Academic Personnel, which will remain the office of record for these actions.

Actions for appointees in the Specialist Series that will continue to require review and approval by the Executive Vice Chancellor or the Executive Vice Chancellor's designee are the following:

1. Initial appointments without an approved search
2. Initial appointments to this series proposed as a change-in-series
3. Reappointments for more than one year at the Junior Specialist rank
4. All promotions
5. All cases recommending acceleration
6. All cases recommending an off-scale salary
7. Retroactive merit increases recommending an effective date other than July 1
8. All other actions not specifically included in this delegation

This authority may not be further redelegated.
