IRVINE: EXECUTIVE VICE CHANCELLOR
AND PROVOST
November 21, 2005
ACADEMIC DEANS AND DEPARTMENT CHAIRS
RE: Revised Search Activities Statement
Working with representatives from ADVANCE and the Office of Equal
Opportunity and Diversity, we have revised the Search Activities
Statement (Form UCI-AP-80) for regular ranks recruitments, separating
the requested information into two parts.
Part one is an "Interim Search Activities Statement"
that asks for information regarding the applicant pool and the
short list of candidates. This form is intended to support the
early phase of the recruitment process, when search committees
and department chairs are assessing the total number of applicants
to determine if additional outreach is necessary to attain a representative
pool. Prior to candidates being invited to campus for an interview,
departments will route the Interim Search Activities Statement
to the Dean's office for review and comment, ensuring that Equity
Advisors and Deans have the same opportunity in all schools to
participate actively in recruitments. Part two will function as
the "Final Search Activities Statement," providing required
information about the selection of the final candidate for the
appointment.
With this change, we have renumbered the two parts of the Search
Activities Statement, as well as the current Search Plan and Advertisement
(Form UCI-AP-82), to show their inter-relatedness in the review
process. The three forms are now listed as UCI-AP-80a, -80b, and
-80c.
We understand that searches are well underway in most schools,
but we ask you to incorporate these new forms into your processes
as soon as possible. Equity Advisors are prepared to work closely
with department chairs to be sure that the purpose of the forms
is understood. If you have already invited candidates to campus
for interviews, you may submit the Interim form at the end of
the process with the Final search statement.
